Clovis Police

A man in Clovis was arrested on New Year’s Eve after firing a rifle multiple times while intoxicated, according to Clovis Police.

The police department received multiple 911 calls minutes after midnight on Thursday reporting an adult male shooting a rifle in a residential neighborhood near Shaw and Fowler, the police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and witnessed the suspect standing in the front yard of a home with a rifle in his hands. When the police approached and took a position of cover, the suspect pointed his rifle at the officers, according to a news release.

The suspect became cooperative and dropped the weapon once the officers identified themselves. The suspect and two other intoxicated adults were detained without incident or injury, according to police.

The suspect was identified as Tyler Anson, 24, of Clovis. He was booked into Fresno County Jail for felony assault with a firearm upon a peace officer, and for discharging a firearm in a gross negligent manner, the release said.

His rifle was found to be loaded, with a bullet in the chamber. The police also found multiple firearms located in his home. The weapons were seized as evidence by police.
