Fresno-area mother and 2-year-old daughter killed in violent crash identified

A Fresno-area mother and child killed in a violent crash south of the Fresno city limits Wednesday morning have been identified.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Samantha Kellogg, 28, and Elena Kellogg, 2.

The crash happened at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Walnut Avenue, northwest of Easton, Wednesday at about 10:15 a.m. The CHP said Kellogg was driving northbound on Walnut Avenue in a Honda Civic and failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

Kellogg collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe driving eastbound on Jefferson Avenue, a street without a posted stop sign. Neither Kellogg nor her daughter wore seatbelts or a child safety seat at the time of the crash, authorities said.

Authorities said both vehicles overturned. Kellogg’s Civic came to a rest on its side, while the Tahoe — containing two juveniles, aged 16 and 17 — stopped upright.

Samantha Kellogg died at the scene, and her toddler was pronounced dead at Community Regional Medical Center.

The juveniles in the Tahoe were wearing their seat belts and received treatment for minor injuries.

A vigil will take place at the site of the crash at 6 p.m. Thursday.
