A California Army National Guard soldier was killed Sunday morning in a vehicle crash in Fresno County.
The crash was reported just after 9 a.m. on Tollhouse Road, just east of Van Fleet Road.
The CHP helicopter was in the area for a training flight and arrived overhead within two minutes of the call. Officer then found the victim dead in the vehicle.
He was identified Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as David Solomon, 27, of Clovis.
According to CHP spokesperson Mike Salas, Solomon was traveling east on Tollhouse Road in a Lexus ISC sedan when the vehicle veered off the south roadway edge while negotiating a left-hand curve. The Lexus collided with a tree and overturned into a dry creek bed before coming to rest on its roof.
Salas said the soldier had been scheduled to report for duty at the Cal Fire station in Tollhouse at 8 a.m. When he did not arrive, fellow soldiers initiated a search and discovered the crash site.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, Salas said.
A ceremonial escort was requested for transport to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office. CHP and fire personnel were present during the transfer to honor the fallen soldier, Salas said.
The collision remains under investigation.
