Fast-growing Clovis neighborhood is getting a 12-acre park. Here’s what’s included

Construction will begin next summer on a 12-acre park and recharge basin in the Loma Vista area of Clovis.

Located at the intersection of Barstow and Agua Dulce avenues, Agua Vista Park will feature an adaptive playground, overlook areas, a pedestrian bridge, trails, a recharge basin — which is critical for replenishing groundwater for the Loma Vista area — along with various park amenities, according to the city’s approved resolution.

A design map shows that the eastern portion of the park will be occupied by a 6.5-acre triangular recharge basin that extends to the confluence of the Enterprise Canal and Dog Creek. At the northeast corner of the basin, a pedestrian bridge will connect the Enterprise Trail and the Dog Creek Trail.

Along Agua Dulce Avenue, the park’s amenities from north to south include an 8,100 square-feet northern lawn area for small activities and shaded viewpoints overlooking the basin, a parking lot and restrooms with extended shaded facilities, a playground, and an 18,000-square-foot southern lawn serving as the main open grass area for recreational activities such as sports.

In addition to overlook viewpoints, which will be shaded and equipped with benches, another key shaded facility will be next to the restroom building. According to city staff, two 36-foot-wide shade structures will be on both sides of the restrooms, which can fit four picnic benches.

A new 0.8-mile asphalt loop trail will connect to Clovis’s existing Enterprise Trail and the Dog Creek Trail.

“That’s to promote people to come into the park and sit and enjoy and to look over the water,” said Jacob Redelfs, the city’s engineer. “So if you go all the way around the basin, all the way around the creek, and come back to your starting point, you’re going to be roughly just under a mile.”

The park will have Clovis’s first playground and swings for all ages, Redelfs said. The playground will come with ADA ramps and include sound and visual sensory facilities for kids to interact with. The goal is to provide the public with all kinds of experience, such as balancing, spinning, sliding, swinging and climbing.

“Typically, you’ll see the 5-to-12-year-olds structure, and you’ll see little kids’ structure separate from it. But here we want to have one big structure with some one-off pieces, kind of encapsulate and allow the kids to all play together,” Redelfs said.

The same concept also applies to the swing sets, Redelfs said. The facilities could accommodate toddlers, adults, seniors, and individuals with ADA needs.

The first phase of the construction, which includes the trails, lawns, overlook area with shaded structure, pedestrian bridge, and parking lot, will begin in summer 2026 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2027, according to city officials. The trails and amenities are expected to be accessible to the public by early 2028.

The second phase will include construction of the restrooms with the picnic areas on both sides, as well as the playground. The city has yet to determine the timeline for the second phase.
