McLane student on bicycle one of two pedestrians hit, killed on same night in Fresno
Two young people were killed as a result of walking or traveling along a Fresno roadway Monday night, including a teenager on a bicycle.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified Nathan Torres as the 15-year-old boy who was struck while riding near Olive and Angus avenues, which is located just west of Highway 14 and a block north of Highway 180.
Police arrived around 6 p.m. and found the juvenile on the ground and unresponsive. Torres was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Torres was a student at McLane High.
Fresno Police said the driver who struck Torres was cooperative, stayed on scene and provided statements to officers. There is no indication the driver was under the influence at the time.
In a separate collision, a 24-year-old woman was struck and killed while walking alongside a roadway in the area west of Highway 99.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed Yeraldin Pascual of Fresno was the woman who was fatally struck around 8:15 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Nielsen and Hughes avenues.
Fresno Police said the woman was walking alongside the road after getting into an argument with her boyfriend while in a car. The car was pulled over and Pascual got out and started walking.
The vehicle that struck Pascual fled the scene, police said.
Police are searching for the driver.
