A 28-year-old Reedley man was killed in a head-on crash on Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at 8:35 a.m. on American Avenue, just west of Navalencia Avenue.
CHP said the victim was driving a 2016 Acura TLX westbound on American Avenue and a 62-year-old Manhattan Beach man was driving a 2022 Ram Thor camper van eastbound on American.
The Acura veered to the left directly into the path of the eastbound Ram camper van, CHP said. The driver of the Ram attempted to apply the brakes, but the front of the Acura collided head-on with the front of the camper van.
The Acura rotated clockwise and came to rest on the south shoulder, while the camper van came to rest within the eastbound lane, CHP said.
The 28-year-old was pronounced dead. He was identified by the coroner as Victor Reyes Jr.
The Ram’s driver sustained moderate injuries.
Both drivers wore a seat belt, but a 62-year-old passenger in the Ram camper van, was sleeping on a bed in the rear of the camper van and not wearing a seat belt. She was thrown forward within the vehicle. Her injuries are currently unknown, CHP said.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not considered to be a factor in this crash.
The collision remains under investigation.
