Three children were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Madera County Saturday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 6 p.m. at Road 24 and Road 7.

CHP said a van, driven by a 45-year-old woman, ran the stop sign and directly in the path of a semi-truck hauling two trailers and was broadsided.

A 6-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were ejected. The boy was pronounced dead and the girl was taken to a hospital where she died. A 17-year-old was also killed in the crash, CHP said.

CHP said the driver of the van is the mother of the children. She and a passenger were taken to the hospital with major injuries, CHP said.

The semi-truck driver was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
