Update: Suspect arrested in Hwy. 168 hit-run that killed Fresno man on motorcycle
A motorcycle rider was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Highway 168 in Fresno late Thursday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the rider was traveling west near Shields Avenue when he was struck from behind by a Hyundai Elantra at 11:58 p.m. The impact threw the rider from his Kawasaki and onto the windshield of the approaching vehicle, which continued driving while pushing the motorcycle.
The rider eventually ended up on the highway, where, “due to extremely dark conditions and limited street lighting in the area,” he was struck by additional vehicle traffic. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
He was identified Friday by the Fresno County Coroner as Thawon Pho, 27, of Fresno.
The driver of the Hyundai continued west before pulling off on the shoulder of the freeway at McKinley Avenue. The person, who has yet to be identified, “fled the scene on foot,” according to the CHP, without rendering aid or notifying emergency services. The car was left behind.
Fresno Police Department assisted CHP in searching for the suspect, which included air support.
The CHP on Saturday said a 33-year-old Fresno man had been arrested in connection with the fatal crash. Julian Quinonez was taken into custody with incident on Friday. According the the CHP, he faces charges including felony gross vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and parole violations. He was booked into Fresno County Jail.
