Clovis doctor found negligent and unprofessional after patient dies, med board says

A doctor from Clovis has been suspended from practicing medicine for nearly three years over negligence in a case that ended in a patient’s death, according to records from the Medical Board of California.

The doctor identified in court records as Adam Ayham Rajoulh, 39, also showed a lack of professionalism in a July 8, 2022, social media post in which he said he prescribes laxatives to unknowing patients who are “annoying” him while asking for pain medication, records said.

Rajoulh’s probation continues for 35 months until June 22, 2028, and he is not allowed to oversee physician assistants while his certificate is suspended, according to the court ruling. His attorney could not be immediately reached.

The ruling did not say where the patient care took place, only describing it as a hospital local to Fresno.

The records note that Rajoulh accepted the ruling without admitting to guilt.

Doctor found to be negligent

The case surrounds a 74-year-old man with a history of peptic ulcers who showed up to an emergency room in the Fresno area where Rajoulh was working about 10 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2023, records say. The man complained of dizziness, weakness and rectal bleeding.

The man was admitted after his blood count, metabolic panel and other tests came back abnormal, the board found.

The records recount a series of repeated tests that came back abnormal as the patient’s heart rate continued to climb until he died at about 2 a.m. the next day. The medical board said Rajoulh was negligent because he failed to document a number of details in the medical records that were important for care.

He also at one point intubated the patient without anesthesia, the records say. The doctor made a “departure from the standard of care” by not administering fluids to a patient whose heart rate continued to elevate, the board wrote.

The records also said his social media post called into question the doctor’s honesty. “The social media post also demonstrates a disrespect and a lack of empathy and concern for patients, which constitutes a simple departure from the standard of care,” the records say.
