An investigation is underway after a man was found unresponsive in downtown Fresno and later died.

Officers with the Fresno Police Department were called to Van Ness and Calaveras around 9 p.m. Friday. A Fresno Fire Department vehicle had driven by the scene; its occupants saw a man lying on the ground motionless.

Crews stopped to render aid and subsequently pronounced the man dead.

It’s not known whether foul play was a factor, Fresno police Lt. Marcus Gray II said.

The investigation is ongoing.
