30-year-old Elk Grove man dies in Fresno County after high-speed collision, CHP says

An Elk Grove man died early Thursday following a crash in Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 12:36 a.m. on Highway 99 near Manning Avenue.

CHP said the man was driving an Acura MDX west on Manning Avenue at a high rate of speed when the vehicle collided with two raised concrete curbs before becoming airborne and going 120 feet down an embankment and hitting the dirt shoulder of Highway 99.

The driver was ejected and landed on the northbound lanes of 99, where he was struck by a Nissan Sentra.

CHP said the driver in the Acura, identified as 30-year-old Tyrone Lee, was killed when he was ejected. He was not wearing a seat belt, CHP said.

The Nissan driver remained on scene and was cooperative.

It was unclear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash; toxicology results are pending.
