Craving a sunny getaway? Southwest Airlines is adding a direct flight from Fresno to a popular Southern California city.
Southwest Airlines will launch daily nonstop service from Fresno Yosemite International Airport to San Diego International Airport in the fall, the airline confirmed Thursday, Feb. 6.
Southwest already offers daily flights from Fresno to Las Vegas and Denver and seasonal service to Dallas.
The addition of the San Diego flight “demonstrates the airline’s confidence in our market, and is timely with the excitement and growth occurring at Fresno’s airport,” Henry Thompson, the city of Fresno’s director of aviation, said in a news release
Construction on a $140 million terminal expansion project, dubbed “FATForward,” is scheduled to be completed in the fall.
The Fresno airport celebrated a traveler growth milestone in 2024, when a record 2.7 passengers passed through its terminals, The Fresno Bee previously reported.
When are new flights from Fresno to San Diego available?
Southwest Airlines will begin offering daily direct flights from Fresno to San Diego in October.
“Expanded air service between Fresno and San Diego brings more opportunities for southern California residents to experience Fresno and the region’s abundance of year-round outdoor adventures and family-friendly activities, including three nearby national parks,” airport spokeswoman Vikkie Calderon said in the release.
A one-way plane ticket from Fresno to San Diego costs $209., Southwest Airlines said.
As of Friday, Southwest Airlines was accepting reservations through Nov. 1

Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and American Airlines also offer daily plane trips from Fresno to San Diego.
What’s changing at Fresno airport?
As part of its expansion project, the Fresno airport is adding a second upper-level passenger concourse with more gates for both domestic and international flights and an enlarged security screening checkpoint, The Bee previously reported.
Also in store is upgraded baggage inspection technology and a larger arrival and customs inspection area for international arrivals.
The terminal expansion comes with a new dining option for travelers.
Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant in Fresno will open a second location at a 2,000-square-foot space in the shops and dining area of the Fresno airport’s new concourse, The Fresno Bee previously reported.
In addition to a seated dining area, the restaurant will have a full-service bar with specialty beverages and a panadería serving coffee, fresh-baked pastries and grab-and-go items, Calderon said in a Jan. 24 news release.
