Popular Mexican restaurant lands second location at Fresno airport. What’s in store?
A popular Mexican restaurant is expanding with a new location at Fresno Yosemite International Airport.
Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant will be the first new restaurant to join the airport in 2025 as work continues on a $140 million terminal expansion project, dubbed “FATForward.”
The Fresno airport is adding a second upper-level passenger concourse with more gates for both domestic and international flights and an enlarged security screening checkpoint, The Fresno Bee previously reported.
Also in store is upgraded baggage inspection technology and a larger arrival and customs inspection area for international arrivals.
“A local Mexican dining concept has been a common traveler request,” Henry Thompson, director of aviation for the city of Fresno, said in a Jan. 24 news release.
Bringing the Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant experience to the Fresno airport ties into “initiatives to offer new amenities inspired by our travelers,” Thompson said.
What is Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant?
Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant has been a popular choice for fans of authentic Mexican cuisine for more than 30 years.
The restaurant currently has one location, at 5088 North Blackstone Ave. in Fresno.
Restaurant owner Ricardo Flores Ganoa also has a club in downtown Fresno, Mezcal Lounge.
Flores Ganoa said it’s a “great honor” to bring “the authentic taste of Mexico” to the Fresno airport.
“We are thrilled to share our vibrant flavors and culinary traditions with travelers from around the world, providing them with a memorable dining experience during their journey,” he said in a news release on Jan. 24.
What makes Fresno restaurant a good fit for airport?
The Fresno airport teamed up with community partner Fresno Area Hispanic Foundation to identify the best dining options for the airport’s new concourse.
According to Vikkie Calderon, airport media and public relations officer, the airport and the nonprofit group met regularly over the past year to evaluate various concepts that would appeal to international travelers.
Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant met those objectives and was invited to join the airport’s food and beverage concession program, Calderon said in the release
The restaurant will operate through a licensing agreement with Fresno Yosemite International Airport food and beverage concessionaire SSP America.
Current dining options at the Fresno airport include Tap Pour Gastropub, Peets Coffee and Starbucks.
Where is new Central Valley restaurant?
Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant will be in the shops and dining area of the Fresno airport’s new concourse.
The Mexican restaurant will occupy a 2,000-square-foot space with a vibrant mariachi and baile folklorico theme, according to Calderon.
In addition to a seated dining area, the eatery will have a full-service bar with specialty beverages and a panadería serving coffee, fresh-baked pastries and grab-and-go items, she said in the release.
What’s on the menu?
At its new Fresno airport location, Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant will offer a “traditional dining menu,” Calderon said.
Popular appetizer choices at the chain’s Blackstone Avenue location include quesabirrias, featuring three crispy corn tortillas filled with barbacoa beef and cheese.
Another customer favorite is tacos el gobernador, with corn tortillas stuffed with sauteed onions, bell peppers and buttery shrimp topped with cabbage and avocado.
Top customer picks for entrees include chicken mole, a traditional Mexican dish served with mole sauce, and enchiladas Mexicanas, cheese enchiladas topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, queso fresco and sour cream.
Entree prices range from $17 to $20, while appetizer prices range from $12 to $14.
Desserts, which include traditional Mexican dessert flan, are priced at $7.
Sodas, juice, milk and coffee are $2.95 each, while agua fresca is $3.25.
When is new eatery opening?
Although no official opening date has been set for the new Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant, the airport’s terminal expansion project is scheduled to be completed in the fall.
