An employee at the Fresno Police Department was arrested Sunday for alleged DUI.

The arrest happened in the area of Highway 180 and McCall Avenue just after 2 p.m. when the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office made the stop while the car was stopped at the red light while the employee was sleeping.

Deputies turned over the incident to the California Highway Patrol when they believed someone was under the influence.

CHP determined the Fresno Police employee was under the influence and was booked into Fresno County Jail.

Fresno Police released a statement Monday afternoon.

“On Sunday, January 19, 2025, the Fresno Police Department was notified by the California Highway Patrol that they had arrested one of our personnel for driving under the influence. At the time of the arrest, the employee was already on paid leave for a non-disciplinary matter. Following our policy and procedures, an Internal Affairs investigation has been initiated. As with any allegations of misconduct, trust and transparency with our community is paramount and we will investigate the matter thoroughly,” the statement read.

The employee was charged with a misdemeanor, cited and released to a responsible party, CHP said.
