Update: Man ID’d by coroner after dying in two-vehicle collision in Fresno County

A 83-year-old man died Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision involving a semi truck in Fresno County.

Authorities responded to the crash at 1:25 p.m. at the intersection of South and Cedar avenues.

California Highway Patrol spokesperson Mike Salas said the man was driving a Mazda pickup truck west on South Avenue, approaching the intersection with Cedar Avenue, which is controlled by signs on South Avenue.

The semi was traveling north on Cedar and entered the intersection while the Mazda failed to stop and drove into the path of the big rig, Salas said.

The two vehicles collided and veered into a residential fence in the northeast corner of the intersection.

The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead. He was identified by the coroner Hector Lara of Fresno.

The driver of the semi suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, Salas said.

The investigation is ongoing.
