A man died Monday evening after he was struck by a train in Fresno.

It happened around 6:16 p.m. near Shields Avenue and Van Ness Boulevard.

Police said a man and a woman were walking on the tracks as the train approached. The man in his 20s was unable to move out of the way in time and was hit.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner identified him as 27-year-old Tyler Repp of Fresno.

The woman was not injured, police said.

BNSF police are investigating the fatal collision.
