Police investigate death of man found near Fresno home. They say it was an accident

A man was found dead Monday night in what Fresno police said was an accidental death.

Officers responded at 7 p.m. to First Street and Madison Avenue south of Belmont Avenue after getting reports of a man who was down near a home in an open field.

Officers arrived and found the man with an injury to his head.

After investigating, Lt. Leslie Williams said the man was intoxicated and fell, striking his head.

The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police investigated the incident for several hours by blocking off First and Madison.
