Update: Victim in fatal solo vehicle crash in Fresno neighborhood identified

A man was killed Sunday afternoon after crashing into a tree at a Fresno home.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the fatal collision at 2 p.m. at Wishon and Holland avenues, Sgt. Elvis Reynoso said.

Reynoso said the vehicle was suspected of traveling at a high rate of speed when it ran a stop sign and crested over the roadway and lost control.

The driver was unable to regain control of the vehicle before colliding with a large tree.

Reynoso said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified Tuesday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Anthony Photopoulos, 46, with an unknown city of residence.

Reynoso said the vehicle was an electric Volkswagen.

It was not known if alcohol or drugs were involved, he said.

Reynoso said the vehicle initially caught on fire, but good Samaritans helped extinguish the fire quickly.

The homeowners were home and no one was injured as the result of the crash, he said.
