Lightning sparks fires in eastern Fresno County foothills, prompting evacuation warning

CalFire battled several fires Monday evening after lightning strikes hit the foothills.

CalFire said eastern Fresno County has experienced over 1,000 lightning strikes in the span of three hours.

Crews are battling the Strike Fire, located at Tollhouse Road and Pittman Hill. The fire there has been contained since.

The Flash Fire, located at Kings Canyon and Cove Road, was at 170 acres with no containment.

The Muscat Fire, at Crawford & Muscat, was at 140 acres with 80% contained.

The MAL Fire, located at Malven and Shaw, was at 1 acre and is now contained.

The Bolt Fire at Palomino and Elwood Road in the Wonder Valley area was at 250 acres with no containment.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation warning for residents in the Wonder Valley area and some orders in parts of Zone K75.

Lightning storms rolled through the central San Joaquin Valley, including lightning strikes near downtown Fresno earlier Monday.

The National Weather Service in Hanford said more storms could flare up again on Tuesday.
