A motorcyclist, who died after crashing following a pursuit with Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday, has been identified.

The coroner said 36-year-old Justin Yanez, 36, of Fresno died after deputies tried to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation at 4:24 p.m near McKinley and Feland avenues, but Yanez and woman on the bike took off.

Deputies said the pursuit ensued at legal speeds.

Two minutes later, the motorcycle ran a stop signing going north on Valentine Avenue and collided with a vehicle that was traveling west on Shields.

Yanez and the passenger on the motorcycle were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for serious injuries. Yanez later died.

The 22-year-old woman was in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck from behind was up and walking around, authorities said.

Fresno police were investigating the collision since the crash occurred at the city intersection.
