Driver from Fresno killed, two badly hurt in head-on crash in Kings County, CHP says

A Fresno man was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 2:15 a.m. at the Avenal Cutoff Road, south of 25th Avenue in Kings County.

According to CHP, a man driving a blue Chevrolet Malibu was northbound on the Avenal Cutoff Road, south of 25th, while a driver in a white Ford F-150 was southbound on the same road.

The driver of the Chevrolet crossed the dividing line into the southbound lane and went head-on with the other vehicle.

The driver of the Chevrolet, described to be a 23-year-old man from Fresno, was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The F-150 driver was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. The right front passenger of the Chevrolet had major injuries and was airlifted to Kaweah Health Medical Center.

It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, CHP said.
