4-year-old fatally drowns in Fresno County pond, deputies say. He was missing for 10 minutes

A 4-year-old boy died from drowning in a pond on private property in Yokuts Valley, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said on Tuesday.

Family called 911 about 11:45 a.m. Monday after pulling the boy from a pond in the area of George Smith Road and Kings Canyon in Yokuts Valley, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies added the boy, whose name is Ronald Walker, had been missing for about 10 minutes before the family found him unresponsive.

Deputies headed to the location and met up with family as relatives tried providing life-saving efforts, the sheriff’s office said.

The family then started transporting the boy when first responders arrived in an ambulance at Highway 180 and Piedra Road and directed them to allow emergency medical personnel to take over.

The 4-year-old was transported about 20 miles before reaching Adventist Health Reedley hospital, where Walker was later pronounced dead, a news release said.

The sheriff’s office said deputies later learned the boy had fallen into a pond on private property.
