The driver killed this week in a Clovis crash was identified as an 81-year-old man, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Thursday.

James Vaughn was at the wheel of a gray sedan about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday when he collided with another car in the intersection of Herndon and Helm avenues, Clovis police and the coroner said.

Vaughn appeared to have allowed the car he was driving to cross the center median as he headed east on Herndon Avenue before the fatal crash, Clovis police spokesperson Ty Wood said.

The car careened into the westbound lanes, colliding with two vehicles that were going west, police said.

Vaughn was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Another driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and two people in the third vehicle were not injured, Wood said.
