Woman killed in SUV crash identified by Fresno coroner. One lane had a stop sign

The driver killed in a crash at a rural intersection was identified as a 65-year-old Fresno woman, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.

The driver of the 2002 Hyundai Sonata killed in the fatal crash was Elida Fernandez, the coroner said.

The California Highway Patrol said she was headed south on Dickenson Avenue near Barstow Avenue about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday while approaching an intersection and a stop sign, CHP said.

The SUV failed to stop and collided with a 2022 GMC Sierra driven by a 45-year-old Fresno man going west without a stop sign, CHP said.

The SUV came to rest on its roof. Fernandez was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The man driving the truck was transported to a Fresno area hospital with minor injuries, CHP said.

Officers said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
