Driver killed in collision at rural Fresno intersection, CHP says. Other driver hurt

The driver of an SUV was killed in a collision on a rural road northwest of Fresno on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver was headed south on Dickenson Avenue near Barstow Avenue about 11:15 a.m. as they approached an intersection and a stop sign, CHP said.

Officers could not say immediately if the driver in the SUV ran the stop sign but it did collide with a truck going west without a stop sign, CHP said.

The driver of the SUV, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The man driving the truck was transported to a Fresno area hospital with moderate injuries, CHP said.

A couple walking in the area who attempted to help the drivers after the fatal collision occurred, told The Fresno Bee the SUV was driven by a woman and ran the stop sign.

Officers at the scene said they could not yet confirm those details.
