Update: The southbound lanes of Interstate 5 on the Grapevine were re-opened and flowing about 8 a.m., according to Caltrans.

Original story: Three of the four lanes going south from Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley on Interstate 5 on the Grapevine were closed early Thursday after two crashes, the California Highway Patrol said.

An estimate was not immediate available when they would reopen, but two lanes were closed when a big rig hauling a trailer hit the center divider and overturned about 6 a.m. north of Fort Tejon Road, the CHP said.

A second crash about an hour later blocked a third lane, leaving only the slowest lane of I-5 still passable, CHP said.

Traffic was backed up for 5 miles about 6:15 a.m., according to the California Department of Transportation.

Officials said to expect delays.
