Bicycle rider in critical condition after collision with train in Fresno, police say

Police tape at crime scene

A bicyclist was in critical condition Tuesday night after being struck by a train in central Fresno, police reported.

The incident took place about 6 p.m. on West Olive Avenue just east of North Blackstone Avenue, said a police spokesman. As the train was crossing Olive at a speed of about 35 mph, the rider attempted to cross in front and was struck.

The spokesman said all warning lights were activated when the rider, a member of the unhoused community, was hit. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
