A Harley-Davidson rider who was killed when he crashed into a tree in Fresno was identified Tuesday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

The motorcycle rider was 58-year-old Robert McGhee of Santa Ana, the coroner said.

McGhee was going east on Kearney Boulevard east of Valentine Avenue about 6:50 p.m. Saturday when he drifted off the right side of the road and slammed into a palm tree, the California Highway Patrol said.

He was thrown from the bike and emergency personnel rushed him to Community Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. McGhee died at the hospital, CHP said.

The investigation of the crash was ongoing, CHP said.
