Crash kills Clovis woman after car struck from behind, CHP says. Fresno man also hurt

UPDATE: Fatal crash victim from Clovis named by coroner. Fresno driver lost control, CHP says

A motorist was killed when she was struck from behind by another car before overturning Tuesday in Fresno, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 37-year-old Clovis woman was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima east on Highway 168 near the Ashlan Avenue off-ramp about 3:10 a.m., CHP said. She has not been identified.

For unknown reasons, the 2007 Dodge Charger behind her driven by a 23-year-old Fresno man lost control before striking the Nissan from behind, CHP said.

Both cars lost control and overturned before coming to rest with the drivers pinned inside, CHP said. The Nissan was on its roof.

The woman was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where she later died, CHP said. The man had critical injuries but they were not considered life-threatening, officers said.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, according to CHP.
