Driver sought after fatal Madera hit-and-run collision with pedestrian, CHP says.

A man walking near the edge of the city of Madera was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash, the California Highway Patrol said on Tuesday.

He was crossing Avenue 15 from the east side at Tozer Road about 8:40 p.m. Monday when an unknown motorist came along, CHP said.

For unknown reasons, the driver entered the path of the 65-year-old man and struck him, officers said.

The driver did not stop to help nor called 911 for the pedestrian, CHP said.

The pedestrian was discovered by an off-duty officer a few minutes later, according to CHP. The motorist fled going east on Avenue 15.

Officers ask anyone with information to call Madera dispatch at 559-507-8120.

Crime Stoppers also takes tips anonymously at 559-498-7867.
