Teenage driver hits and seriously injures elderly pedestrian at busy Fresno intersection

A teenage driver struck and hit an elderly pedestrian Saturday night in northeast Fresno.

Fresno Police responded to the collision at 5:30 p.m. at East Bullard Avenue and North First Street, where a man in his 70s was found lying on the ground.

Lt. Zeb Price said the teenage driver was making a turn on the westbound lane of Bullard Avenue onto northbound First Street.

But as the teen drove through the busy intersection, his vehicle collided with the elderly man.

The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was in critical condition.

Price said police are trying to determine what happened on how the collision occurred.

Police said the man was in the crosswalk, but it was not immediately known how far he was in the lane.

The department’s collision reconstruction unit is investigating the collision.

Police said the teen is being cooperative and alcohol or drugs are not suspected.
