Man killed in multi-car crash in Fresno County identified. Distracted driving suspected
A Sanger man was identified Thursday as the victim of a fatal multi-car crash in eastern Fresno County, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said.
Officers said they believe distracted driving played a part in the fatal crash about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday that killed Daniel Uribe, 58, of Sanger, the coroner’s office confirmed.
The California Highway Patrol said a 26-year-old Dinuba woman in a Chevrolet Silverado was headed east on Goodfellow near Rio Vista avenues with cars in front and behind her as they approached oncoming traffic.
Officers said they believe she was distracted or otherwise not paying attention, which caused her to fail to see traffic slowing.
She attempted to avoid hitting a Toyota Camry, but clipped it as she swerved left and traveled head-on into a BMW 328i, CHP said.
A Hyundai Accent behind the truck could not avoid hitting it, CHP said.
Uribe was in the BMW and suffered major injuries. He was taken to Adventist Health in Reedley before he died, CHP said.
The other three drivers had minor injuries, CHP said.
The investigation was ongoing, but officers said none of the drivers were suspected of being impaired. The Silverado driver could potentially face a vehicular manslaughter accusation, officers said.
Family and friends of Uribe set up a gofundme page to help pay for the funeral.
