Man fails to yield stop sign, killed when car overturns in Fresno County canal, CHP says

A Fresno County man died at a local hospital Monday after his car overturned into a canal north of Biola, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 43-year-old from Biola around 6:55 p.m. was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry west on Barstow near Biola avenues, the CHP said, where a stop sign was posted at the intersection.

Barstow does not go through and a canal runs along Biola Avenue. The driver failed to stop and continued through the intersection and into a dirt embankment, CHP said.

The Camry struck the embankment, causing it to overturn before coming to rest in the water, CHP said.

First responders searched the area and found the man in the water unresponsive. He died later at Community Regional Medical Center.

CHP said he was not suspected of being impaired. The investigation was ongoing.
