Woman seriously hurt after a rollover crash on Highway 99 in Fresno. Witnesses gave aid
A woman was seriously injured Saturday after she was ejected in a single-vehicle collision on a Fresno freeway.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the collision at 12:14 p.m. at southbound Highway 99 and the Ashlan on-ramp involving a vehicle that traveled up on the embankment and collided with a tree before overturning several times near Parkway Drive, Sgt. Tim Ray said.
Emergency personnel performed CPR before she was taken to Community Regional Medical Center. She is listed in critical condition.
Two other occupants — a driver and a juvenile occupant — were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The collision is still under investigation, Ray said. It’s unknown if drugs and alcohol were a factor in the wreck.
Several witnesses gave statements to officers to say the vehicle was going at high rate of speed and unsafe turning, “but we need to determine why they made an unsafe turn.”
Ray said there was a vehicle traveling behind and witnessed the collision and stopped to render aid.
A witness told The Bee they saw dust pick up and also ran to give aid.
Traffic on southbound Highway 99 was not affected, Ray said.
