Driver killed when propane truck overturns in Madera County, CHP says. Hazmat on scene

A propane truck driver was killed Sunday in a single-vehicle collision in Madera County.

The California Highway Patrol said the fatal crash happened just before 5 p.m. at Road 222 and 220, near Oakhurst, involving a propane truck that overturned.

CHP Sgt. Vincent Villegas said the man was traveling westbound on Road 222, east of Highway 41 when for unknown reasons, the Suburban propane truck had a hard brake application and swerved to the right shoulder and struck the embankment and overturned.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Villegas said.

Villegas said the truck was leaking vapor. Hazmat crews were on the scene to stop the leak.

The roadway was expected to be closed for two hours.
