Woman killed in suspected Fresno DUI crash identified. Driver under arrest, CHP says
A woman killed in a suspected DUI crash into the rear-end of a box truck was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
Yadira Ruby Pineda, 32, of Selma was a passenger inside a 2021 Honda Accord about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in the fatal crash, the coroner confirmed.
The Accord was going south on Clovis near American avenues before striking the back of the Isuzu box truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
The Accord driver, 31-year-old Jesus Acevedo Arana of Caruthers, was too impaired to stop or avoid the crash and ended up about 15 feet under the truck, shearing the rear axle, CHP said.
Acevedo Arana was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries but was expected to survive, CHP said. He’ll be placed into custody once released from the hospital.
He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and felony vehicular manslaughter.
It was only after the driver was removed that officers were able to find Pineda underneath the debris and wreckage, CHP said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The box truck driver reported minor injuries, CHP said.
