Coroner identifies ATV rider who slammed into concrete pipe in Del Rey

A man killed in rural Fresno County while driving an ATV that slammed into a cement structure was identified Tuesday by the Fresno County Coroner.

The victim was Juan Rios Chincoya, 46, of Del Rey.

The California Highway Patrol said Chincoya was driving a 1992 Polaris Trail Boss 350 on private property along Jefferson Avenue, east of McCall avenues in Del Rey between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday.

Chincoya did not see a concrete standpipe, a large cement tower making up a part of a water system, directly in his path, the CHP said. The ATV struck the pipe and Chincoya was ejected. He died from his injuries at the scene.

The CHP said alcohol was suspected as a factor in the crash, but the investigation was ongoing.
