Man pulled from Millerton Lake has died, coroner says. 25-year-old was from Fresno

A man pulled from Millerton Lake died in a Fresno hospital, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Monday.

Erick Villatoro Rodriguez, 25, of Fresno was identified as the victim pulled from the water about 3:50 p.m. Sunday near the Boat Ramp 1 area on the Fresno County side, the coroner’s office confirmed.

Good Samaritans pulled Rodriguez out of Millerton Lake before first responders arrived, officials said.

A state park lifeguard arrived on the scene and made life-saving efforts before state park rangers and Cal Fire rescuers took over for about 15 minutes on the shoreline, a park ranger said.

He was taken to St. Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, where he later died from the drowning, the coroner’s office said.

The area where the man was swimming did not have a lifeguard, and he was not wearing a life jacket, the ranger said. It was unclear how strong of a swimmer the man was.

Officials also said they were investigating to determine if alcohol played a role in the incident.
