Man walking from party hit, killed by three vehicles on Highway 180 west of Fresno

A man is dead after he was struck by three vehicles Saturday in Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol said the collision took place at 11:43 p.m. at Highway 180 and North Howard Avenue.

CHP said the 30-year-old man was highly intoxicated standing in the middle of the westbound lane of Highway 180, east of Howard when he was struck by a vehicle going west at 55 mph.

The man landed in the westbound lane and was then hit by two vehicles.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical, Center where he later died.

CHP said the man had walked three miles from a quinceañera in Kerman and was headed to Fresno before he was struck.

It’s unknown why the man was walking and ended up in the middle lane, CHP said.

“We don’t know why he ended up in the middle lane,” Sgt. Dusten Dimmer said. “There were no other calls of a pedestrian. I don’t know if he was crossing the street.”

The man was wearing dark clothing, he said.

The drivers remained on scene and were cooperative.
