Clovis woman who died in Pine Flat boating accident identified. Sheriff urges caution

A woman who died Friday evening in a boating accident at Pine Flat Lake was identified Saturday by the Fresno County Coroner.

The accident, in which Neva Marlene Klomp, 67, of Clovis died, took place about 8:15 p.m., when the boat she was riding in struck a log in the water, according to Fresno County sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti. After the impact, several people in the craft where thrown around, and Klomp struck her head.

Deputies patrolling the lake in a boat responded and performed CPR, but Klomp died at the scene.

Botti reminded boaters to be aware of floating debris in the water and said regulations require boaters to travel at 5 mph after sunset.
