Driver who struck car then tree near Fresno airport before he was killed identified

The man killed when his truck struck a tree near Fresno Yosemite International Airport this week was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Timothy Aguilar, 32, of Fresno was pulled from his truck by two police officers as it began to catch fire but died later at Community Regional Medical Center, the coroner confirmed.

A call reporting the crash came in about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday and police arrived to find Aguilar still in the truck after it slammed into the tree, police said.

Occupants of a second vehicle involved in the crash were treated for injuries several blocks away, police said.

Police said it appeared the truck driver rear-ended the other car and then careened into the tree.

McKinley was shut down between Peach and Helm avenues after the crash by investigators.
