Pedestrian, 56, killed in hit-and-run ID’d by Fresno coroner. A man was arrested

A pedestrian struck and killed Friday afternoon in a hit-and-run collision in central Fresno was identified by the coroner on Monday.

The woman killed was Juanita Garcia, 56, of Fresno.

The collision happened just before 1 p.m. at Hammond and Mariposa avenues when a white truck struck Garcia as she was walking in the road, police said.

She was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where she died.

Police said witnesses saw the collision and followed the suspect vehicle to the Rite Aid parking lot at Blackstone and Olive avenues and called police.

A suspect identified as Federico Ramirez Garcia was later arrested and booked into Fresno County jail. He since bailed out.

Anyone with information about the fatal incident is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.
