UPDATE: Man killed at fire in concrete drain in Fresno identified

A man died after he was badly burned during a fire inside a concrete drainage enclosure in Fresno on Monday, authorities said.

The Fresno Fire Department responded to the area of Norwich and Sante Fe avenues at 2 p.m. and found the man already dead, Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless said.

Witnesses told officials they heard the victim screaming and attempted to pull him out, but were unable to, including a city worker.

The cause of fire was under investigation.

Officials said the enclosure was being used as a temporary shelter.
