A woman killed when the vehicle she was in was struck by a train Tuesday evening was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

She was identified as 22-year-old Elizabeth Keeling. Her place of residence is unknown, the coroner said.

Keeling was taken to the hospital following the collision after Danny Shelton, 48, of Fresno, attempted to drive around railroad crossing arms while westbound on Conejo Avenue.

Shelton was not able to avoid the northbound train. The ensuing collision with the Amtrak passenger train was powerful enough that the man’s Nissan Versa was knocked back 200 feet.

The train came to a stop about three-quarters of a mile away.

Shelton died at the scene. He was identified by the coroner on Wednesday.

Keeling later died at the hospital.
