Fresno’s Sally Caglia honored with 2023 Leon S. Peters Award during surprise announcement
Longtime Fresno philanthropist Sally Caglia was surprised during a live announcement in front of friends and family as the recipient of the 2023 Leon S. Peters Award by the Fresno Chamber of Commerce at CMAC in downtown Fresno on Tuesday.
Caglia is the third member of her family honored by the chamber. She joins her father, Frank Caglia, and brother, Richard, who received the award in 1988 and 2014, respectively.
The annual award goes to an individual who emulates Leon S. Peters’ legacy of business success, public service, private philanthropy, and ethical leadership style, according to a statement by the Fresno Chamber of Commerce.
Sally Caglia has served as board member with the Cultural Arts Rotary Club, Cultural Arts District Association, Fresno/Clovis Convention and Visitors Bureau Research and Development Board, City of Fresno Historic Preservation Commission and others. She and her family own Caglia Environmental and the Electric Motor Shop, a Fresno institution celebrating 103 years in business.
“Sally really embodies the International Rotary motto of ‘Service above self,’” said Jackie Ryle of the Cultural Arts Rotary Club during the award reception.
Ryle listed the many service projects Caglia has been involved with over the years in addition to her love of hosting foreign exchange students.
“This is a tremendous, tremendous honor to be the third of our family to receive this,” Caglia said while accepting the award. “And it’s an honor to serve in my father’s legacy with my brother Dick, my brother Vince, and all the family.”
The Chamber of Commerce also announced their Entrepreneur of the Year honorees:
- Bruce Batti, Community Champion of the Year
- Lawrence Clark, Harold Zinkin Entrepreneur of the Year
- Justin Levine, Student Entrepreneur of the Year
- Mike Osegueda, Rising Star of the Year
