Victim in collision with van has died. Coroner identifies her as 30-year-old from Fresno

A pedestrian has died after she was struck by a van Tuesday night in central Fresno.

The Fresno County Coroner on Wednesday identified her as Zulema Arumbula, 30, of Fresno.

The collision took place on Shields Avenue east of Fresno Street about 6:25 p.m., said Lt. Israel Reyes.

Arambula was standing close to a man who ran south across the street outside of an intersection. Witnesses told police Arambula was struck by the van when she ran in the same direction.

Officers administered life-saving measures before she was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center.

Reyes said the driver of the van remained at the scene and there was no evidence that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police update: Man sought

In an update Thursday morning, police said they are looking for the man who was reportedly with Arumbula before she ran into the street.

“Officers did find an independent witness at the scene who stated they observed the female victim and a male arguing near the intersection of Shields Avenue and Anna Street prior to the accident. The male ran south across Shields Avenue, and the victim followed behind him shortly thereafter, at which point she was struck by the vehicle. The unidentified male did not remain at the scene.”

Detectives from the Traffic Bureau are asking that anyone with information to contact detective Christopher Wyant at 559-621-5052.
