An irrigation worker Tuesday reported finding the body of Ulysses Carr, 86, in a dry ponding basin between Easton and Raisin City on Tuesday — 39 days after he went missing.

Carr, a Fresno man who liked to take long walks and also suffered with Alzheimer’s Disease, had been missing since Nov. 25, officials said. Fresno County search and rescue teams, who at times were joined by teams from other counties, had launched extensive searches for him over that time span.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Tony Botti reported that Carr’s body was located near West Sumner and South Blythe avenues, about five miles north of Carr’s home near West Muscat and South Valentine avenues.

Botti said while Carr was missing, searchers covered about 90 square miles in an attempt to find Carr, checking vineyards, orchards and open fields, along with about 5,000 buildings, with no success.

“Our office wishes to thank everyone who tried to help locate Mr. Carr and bring much needed closure to his family,” said Botti.
