Repair for Auberry Road in Fresno County coming. Project expected to take 14 days

Fresno County officials Tuesday reported more traffic issues for drivers heading for Shaver Lake and the High Sierra above: Repairs cause by erosion on parts of the Auberry Road could take crews two weeks or more to repair, depending weather conditions.

The roadway will remain open only to local traffic during that time span, officials warned, and a section of the roadway in the Alder Springs area will be shut down as part of the work site. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed through.

The closure is the second blow to drivers heading up the hill, as Caltrans continues to evaluate a rockslide that closed Highway 168 at the 2,500-foot level of the four-lane highway Saturday.

That leaves drivers the option of utilizing slow, winding Tollhouse as the only option to and from the floor of the central San Joaquin Valley.

Fresno County work crews will need at least 14 days to repair dangerous erosion areas on Tollhouse Road, officials reported Tuesday.
