Victim identified in fatal crash in rural Fresno County. She was a UC Davis student

A woman who died after being ejected in a solo vehicle rollover crash in western Fresno County was been identified by the coroner’s office Friday.

Yi Yan, 22, was from China and was in the U.S. as an international student studying at UC Davis, the coroner’s office said.

The California Highway Patrol reported the collision at 3:31 p.m. Thursday in the area of South San Benito Avenue and West Panoche Road in Mendota.

CHP said a Mercedes GLC 300 sedan was southbound on San Benito Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the road and overturned.

Yan died at the scene.

Four people were taken to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries, with one passenger sustaining serious injuries. The driver and two other passengers had minor scrapes.

All of the people in the car were in their 20s and from Davis.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor, but CHP said the wet road was.
