Woman dies and four injured in solo vehicle crash in Fresno County, CHP says

UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal crash in rural Fresno County. She was a UC Davis student

A woman died Thursday afternoon in a solo vehicle crash in wet driving conditions in western Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol reported the collision at 3:31 p.m. in the area of South San Benito Avenue and West Panoche Road in Mendota.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said a Mercedes GLC 300 sedan was southbound on San Benito Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the road and overturned.

A woman passenger, a 22-year-old from Davis, was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four people were taken to a local hospital with moderate to major injuries, with one passenger sustaining serious injuries. The driver and two other passengers had minor scrapes.

All of the people in the car were in their 20s and from Davis.

Alcohol and drugs were not a factor, but Salas said the wet road was.
